The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, has declined to constitute a seven-man judicial panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct levelled against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Ordu.
Justice Amadi cited the existence of two subsisting court orders which expressly restrained him from appointing such a panel, noting that he is bound by law to obey and uphold valid judicial pronouncements.
He further disclosed that the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, has already filed an appeal challenging the court orders at the Court of Appeal.
The Chief Judge’s decision effectively places the impeachment-related process on hold, pending the determination of the appeal and further legal clarity on the matter.
The development adds another layer to the ongoing political and legal tensions in Rivers State, as stakeholders await the outcome of the appellate proceedings.
