Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, were reportedly attacked by suspected thugs on Tuesday in Edo State.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by Obi’s former campaign spokesman and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko.
According to the statement, Obi and leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came under attack in Benin City during activities marking the formal declaration of Olumide Akpata into the ADC.
Tanko alleged that armed individuals trailed the delegation from the ADC Secretariat to the residence of Odigie-Oyegun, where they reportedly fired shots at the gate and vandalised several vehicles.
He described the incident as an apparent assassination attempt and warned that the development poses a threat to democracy
