The ninth fire incident in Port Harcourt occurred yestreday, at a makeshift settlement also known as batcher at Rumukalagbor.

The fire which razed buildings and goods worth millions was caused by the careless use of illegally refined kerosene by one of the neighbours.

A source said a Redeemed Church in the area got burnt and that despite the intervention of officials of the State Fire Service, they were unable to put out the fire, due to shortage of water.

This follows the eight and seventh fire incidents at Rumuola and Captain Amangala Waterside in Port Harcourt, few days ago.

You would recall that the state government had blamed the fire incidents on illegal oil refining activities.

Commissioner for Special Duties, Emeka Onowu in a statement warned residents to desist from the act, as it is causing more harm than good.
