The Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has described the Lekki Shooting as a “bodyless, bloodless and hoax massacre”. The minister made this claim during a live press conference organised in response to reports by Cable News Network (CNN) on the Lekki Shootings.
Lai Mohammed while responding to questions from journalists, said CNN did not have reporters on scene and as such relied only on social media sources.
Regarding the arrest of alleged #ENDSARS supporters, the minister said, “the fact that you a ENDSARS protester does not grant you immunity from lawful investigation, lawful arrest”.
Lai Mohammed also dared members of the public with evidence regarding what has been described as the Lekki Massacre, to approach the Judicial Panel of Enquiry set up by the government.
Meanwhile, a CNN documentary based on its investigation into the Lekki Shooting had shown that the Nigerian Army used live bullets on peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll gate. This is despite claims by the army that they only used bland bullets.
CNN has said it relied on verified video footages, testaments from many eye witnesses as well as photographs and videos from different sources on events that occurred before, during and after the Lekki shooting.
