Nigeria’s newly confirmed Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has inaugurated an eight-member high-level committee to spearhead the implementation of state police structures, marking his first major policy action as the nation’s police chief.
The announcement came on Wednesday during his inaugural meeting with the top hierarchy of the Nigeria Police Force, just hours after his confirmation as substantive IGP.
The newly constituted committee, chaired by Professor Olu Ogunsakin, is mandated to develop an operational framework for state policing, decentralise critical police functions, and advance the IGP’s broader national reform agenda.
The initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s renewed push for decentralised security architecture amid sustained nationwide calls for the establishment of state police.
