The Rivers State Executive Council has approved the recruitment of 5,000 indigenes into the state government service, with the exercise strategically focused on strengthening the education sector.
The approval was granted during an Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday at the Government House in Port Harcourt. The meeting was presided over by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and attended by Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honor Sirawoo, disclosed that the recruitment will target both primary and post-primary schools across the state.
He stated that 3,000 recruits will be deployed to basic and primary schools, while 2,000 will be assigned to post-primary schools. The move is aimed at improving administrative efficiency and boosting public service delivery.
Dr. Sirawoo further explained that the recruitment drive will strengthen service delivery within the education sector and emphasized that the process will be merit-based.
“The process for the employment of these approved 5,000 persons will be well-guided to ensure that only qualified persons are recruited,” he said.
