Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has directed the immediate payment of August salaries owed to local government workers and pensioners across the state.
The directive follows his reinstatement as governor on September 18, 2025, and comes after widespread complaints that many workers and retirees were not paid during the August verification exercise conducted by the interim administration.
The exercise, which was meant to clean up the payroll, had revealed an inflated wage bill, leading to delays and omissions in salary disbursement.
Governor Fubara, in addressing the matter, reportedly instructed heads of personnel in all 23 local government areas to submit updated and verifiable lists of staff and pensioners to ensure prompt payment of the arrears.
He assured workers that his administration remains committed to their welfare and would not tolerate situations that cause unnecessary hardship.
