Jesutega Onokpasa, a lawyer, political commentator, and prominent figure in Nigerian politics, has died. Until his recent shift in stance, Onokpasa was known as a staunch supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Onokpasa served on the party’s Publicity Committee and was part of the APC Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 elections. He rose to national prominence after a heated on-air clash with AriseTV anchor Rufai Oseni, further establishing his reputation as a vocal political figure.
Onokpasa had long defended the Tinubu-led administration but shocked many when he announced he would not support the President’s re-election bid in 2027. Despite remaining within the APC, he openly criticised the administration’s handling of security challenges, economic difficulties, and its failure to acknowledge loyal party members and core supporters.
His death comes amid a period of visible internal tension within the ruling party. Further details regarding the circumstances of his passing were not immediately available at the time of reporting.
