Houses and goods worth millions have been razed by fire at Ibaa community, in Emouha Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Sources say the incident occurred in the wee hours of today, while some persons were still in bed.
A resident, confirmed that the fire was caused by activities of illegal oil refiners. This, was after a tanker allegedly carrying illegal petroleum product, caught fire.
He said properties were burnt as some persons could not pick anything from their homes.
The man, stated that despite the efforts of the council Chairman, Chidi Lloyd to end illegal oil refining activities in the area, the heinous act has continued.
He called on relevant authorities to double their efforts to ending the menace, as the illegal business is still going on.
He also appealed to those involved in the act to desist, adding that it is caused more harm than good.
The council chairman, Chidi Lloyd and the State Police Command are yet to confirm the incident. Efforts to reach them proved abortive.
