The Federal Government has announced that Mathematics will no longer be a compulsory requirement for admission into universities and polytechnics for students in the Arts and Humanities.
According to a statement by the Federal Ministry of Education on Tuesday, candidates in these disciplines will no longer need to present a credit pass in Mathematics in their Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO).
The new directive aims to align admission requirements with the specific needs of arts-related courses and reduce barriers for students pursuing careers in creative and humanities fields.
Details of the implementation guidelines are expected to be released by the ministry in collaboration with tertiary education regulatory bodies.
