The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu is said to have been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Magu according to Sahara Reporters was arrested regarding allegations over the ownership of four properties and for transferring funds out of the country via a third party.
Magu who has been heading the Commission in acting capacity over failure of the National Assembly to approve his nomination by the president was earlier accused of gross infractions by Abubakar Malami, Attorney-General of the federation (AGF).
Malami had asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Magu over some “weighty” allegations, including the diversion of recovered loot.
In 2016, DSS accused the EFCC boss of living in a N40m mansion paid for by one Umar Mohammed, a retired Air Commodore.
According to a DSS report on December 2010, the Police Service Commission (PSC) found Magu guilty of action prejudicial to state security – withholding of EFCC files, sabotage, unauthorised removal of EFCC files and acts unbecoming of a police officer, and awarded him severe reprimand as punishment.
