The Rivers State High Court has restrained the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, from receiving or acting on any impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The order followed an ex-parte application filed by Governor Fubara at the High Court in Port Harcourt.
In its ruling, the court also barred the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the Clerk of the Assembly, and 29 members of the House from transmitting any impeachment notice to the Chief Judge pending further hearing of the matter.
The court’s decision comes amid escalating political tension in the state over moves by lawmakers to commence impeachment proceedings against the governor.
The matter has been adjourned to a later date for further proceedings.
