The Rivers State High Court has restrained the Police from arresting Edison Ehie – Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara.
Hon. Justice S.H Aprioku, gave the ruling Today in a fundamental rights suit filed against the Nigerian Police..
After listening to arguments from both counsels the judge: dismissed the preliminary objection raised on the issue of jurisdiction, deemed lacking in merit.
- 2. Restrained the respondents from arresting the applicant based on charges alleged to be politically motivated and aimed at settling scores, specifically referencing the burning and destruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly chambers.
- 3. An injunction preventing the respondents from harassing, intimidating, or detaining the applicant in connection with the aforementioned charges, deemed a gross contravention of the applicant’s right to personal liberty.
4. Awarded One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000) in favor of the applicant against the respondents
