Former Super Eagles winger and renowned left-footed forward, Okwuchukwu ‘Allen’ Waobikeze, has died.
His death was confirmed on Monday by his brother, Eli Waobikeze, who announced the passing in a Facebook post, stating that the ex-international died peacefully at about 7:34 pm CST.
Waobikeze’s death comes just days after the loss of former Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper, Peter Rufai.
Popularly known as ‘Babaoo’ among fans and peers, Waobikeze was celebrated for his powerful left foot and exceptional ball control. While his appearances for the national team were limited due to stiff competition, he made a significant impact in Nigerian club football, playing for Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, BCC Lions of Gboko, and Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland FC).
Tributes have continued to pour in from fans and former teammates mourning the loss of the gifted footballer.
