The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed its members across the country to boycott academic activities whenever salaries are delayed beyond the third day of any new month.
ASUU President, Professor Christopher Piwuna, made this known during an exclusive interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Monday night. He said the decision was based on the union’s adoption of a “no pay, no work” stance, citing members’ inability to meet basic needs such as food, transportation, and other essential obligations.
Piwuna accused the Federal Government of deliberately sabotaging the implementation of the new Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), which replaced the controversial Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) previously rejected by the union.
“The FG is punishing the university community because we rejected the IPPIS platform,” Piwuna alleged, stressing that ASUU would continue to resist any system that undermines the autonomy and welfare of Nigerian universities.
