The Bori Divisional Police Officer, Bako Angbashim, has denied shooting at protesting Julius Berger workers.
The protesters had accused Angbashim, of shooting at them which led to the death of one Samuel Ajayi, while four other persons were injured, on Tuesday.
But, the DPO, in a statement, said those accusing him of the crime were only bent on tarnishing his image and the good works he has been doing to ensure peace in the area.
He stated that the workers may have been hit by stray bullets as there are cult activities in the area.
Meanwhile, the protesters yesterday, met with the Chairman of Gokana LGA, Confidence Deekor, to intervene on the matter.
Deekor, in a statement called on the state police command to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter to bring perpetrators to book.
He promised to meet with the management of Julius Berger and all those concerned to find a lasting solution to the crisis.
Workers of Julius Berger Company at the Bonny-Bodo NLNG project, on Monday took to the streets to protest against what they described as poor salaries and welfare packages.
