Residents of Bonny Local Government Area have called on the Rivers State Government to lift the lockdown imposed on the LGA to enable them restock food and other consumables.
The residents who made the call in a chat with news correspondents monitoring the level of compliance in the area yesterday, also pleaded with the state government to come to their rescue by providing palliatives.
The residents who pleaded anonymity said the lockdown has brought untold hardship on them, as they now exchange other items for food with their neighbours, while some beg to eat. “We are tired and dying of hunger,” a resident stated.
Bonny LGA and Onne Community were placed on a total lockdown few days ago by the state government due to the increase in cases of the COVID-19 in the area. The governor said the move became necessary to stop these areas from becoming the epicentre of the virus in the south-south region.
