Sea pirates Today, intercepted a passenger boat carrying 20 persons en route to Bonny near Isaka in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Executive Chairman of Bonny LGA, Dame Hon. Anengi Barasua Claude-Wilcox disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
According to her, government security operatives swiftly intervened, rescuing nine passengers who were safely returned to Port Harcourt, and efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the remaining 12 passengers.
She said reliminary investigations revealed that the boat driver violated regulations by navigating through Kilometer 10, a prohibited route for commercial boats.
She urged the victims’ relatives and the public to remain calm, assuring that Bonny Local Government Council is working closely with neighboring LGAs and security agencies to resolve the situation and apprehend the perpetrators.
