The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, has flagged off the Rivers State Health Centre Management Board’s Optimized Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week at the Bonny/Finima Primary Health Centre.
Represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Ibinyefagha Renner Alabere, the Council delegation conducted an inspection of ongoing service improvements at the facility. The team, which included the Supervisor for Health and Environment, Sir Hayford Banigo, visited the antenatal care unit, nutrition hub, upgraded cold-chain storage area, and newly installed incubators for premature babies.
Demonstrating the Council’s support for routine immunization, Vice Chairman Alabere personally administered polio vaccines to children during the exercise. He said the gesture underscored the administration’s commitment to reducing preventable childhood illnesses and strengthening primary healthcare delivery across the LGA.
Speaking at the event, Alabere reaffirmed the Council’s alignment with the Rivers State-led programme and highlighted ongoing efforts to improve maternal, neonatal and child health indicators in Bonny and adjoining communities.
The ceremony drew officials from the Rivers State Ministry of Health, the Health Centre Management Board, and community representatives, who commended the collaboration between state and local authorities in improving grassroots health outcomes.
