The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, has unveiled plans to set up a Community Vigilante Force following a security stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government Lodge, Bonny. The meeting brought together youth leaders, community representatives, and security agencies.
Pepple, described the recent kidnapping incident as “quite unfortunate” and warned that “injury to one is an injury to all.” He stressed that safeguarding the community is a shared responsibility, emphasizing that effective policing requires “individual commitment” and active civic participation.
Since assuming office, Pepple noted, Bonny LGA has experienced no major security breaches—an accomplishment he attributed to the dedication of local security service chiefs. He highlighted the need to sustain this success through community-driven vigilance.
Key Resolutions from the Meeting
Each community will have local government vigilantes stationed at strategic waterfronts.
Communities will nominate personnel for profiling and immediate engagement, with nominations to be sent to the Chief Security Officer.
Each community will receive monthly allowances for the nominated personnel, along with essential working materials.
Boats operating on the designated community waterfronts will be allowed during the day; no operations will be permitted after hours.
The meeting, which included active deliberations with the Bonny Youth Federation and security operatives, reinforced commitments to strengthen intelligence flow, prevent criminal infiltration, and enhance security presence across strategic areas.
Chairman Pepple reiterated his dedication to protecting lives, communities, and the territorial integrity of Bonny, asserting that security will remain a top priority.
