The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Dame Hon Anengi Barasua Claude-Wilcox, DSSRS, JP., has washed her hands off a matter involving one Mr and Mrs Jeremiah Godspower whose child was knocked by a bus belonging to TopLife International School in Bonny LGA on March 23, 2023 wherein the victim suffered fracture and leg injuries.
The management of the school had shouldered aspects of the treatment process at a specialist Hospital in Port Harcourt except the 750,000 naira cost of final surgery for the removal of the metallic rod support in the child’s leg for which the father raised alarm over abandonment, attracting the intervention of the LGA Boss at the time.
However, during a roundtable meeting held on June 3, 2024 and today, it was established that the matter was already in court with claims of damages to the tune of 100,000,000 naira by the child’s father and despite the proposed financial intervention of the Council Chairman together with the acceptance of the school management to pay a cumulative sum of 4,000,000 naira as damage cost, the father of the child is still insisting on continuing with the court proceedings.
In the circumstance, the CTC Chairman of Bonny LGA has withdrawn from the matter with a view to give room for the determination of the substantive suite in Court, just as she advised all parties to maintain the present status quo till after judicial pronouncements are made on the issue.
