The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, has unveiled plans to introduce scholarship grants for undergraduates of Bonny origin studying in public tertiary institutions across the country.
He made this known on Monday, during a courtesy visit by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas (FPOG) Chapter, led by Comrade Abiye Aseminaso.
Pepple said the council is set to partner with FPOG and ASUP from 2026 to expand skill acquisition opportunities for young people in the area. He noted that the initiative will focus on training Bonny youths in emerging and technical fields such as artificial intelligence, welding and fabrication, health, safety and environment (HSE), and mechanical pipe fitting.
According to him, the collaboration will strengthen the educational and professional capacity of young people in the local government while positioning them for greater competitiveness in the labour market.
The chairman also disclosed plans to construct a Secretariat for the FPOG Student Union Government as part of efforts to support effective student leadership and enhance learning conditions.
Responding, Comrade Aseminaso commended the chairman’s commitment to youth development and expressed ASUP’s readiness to work with FPOG leadership to develop a functional framework for the proposed partnership.
