The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area in Rivers State, Amasenibo Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, has presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill, tagged the “Budget of Security and Social Welfare,” to the Bonny Legislative Council.
The presentation, held at the Legislative Chambers on Park Road, Bonny, was in line with Section 76 of the Rivers State Local Government Administration Law No. 5 of 2018.
The proposed budget has a total outlay of over N13.5 billion, with recurrent expenditure put at N5.95 billion and capital expenditure at N7.645 billion.
Speaking during the presentation, Pepple commended the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of the council, noting that the collaboration has been instrumental in achieving over 75 percent budget performance in the previous fiscal cycle.
He expressed optimism about the new fiscal year, stating that 2026 would usher in “new hope and a new direction,” with increased commitment to improving social welfare, infrastructure, security, education, and sports development across the local government.
The chairman also appreciated the legislative council for its support and swift passage of the supplementary budget, expressing confidence that the partnership between both arms of government would be further strengthened.
He added that since assuming office in September 2025, both arms of government have maintained a strong working relationship, which he said would translate into improved service delivery in 2026.
