The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple on Monday met with major telecommunications operators to address what he described as persistent and unacceptable network challenges across the LGA.
During the meeting, Chairman Pepple raised strong concerns over poor connectivity along the Bonny–Bodo Road and in several communities, noting that residents, transporters and business owners rely heavily on stable communication for safety and economic activities. He said complaints about unreliable service had become frequent and demanded urgent attention.
Representatives of the service providers acknowledged the complaints and pledged improvements. Mr. Edegbia Rasaf of Globacom Nigeria admitted there were gaps in service quality and assured that the company was working to address them. MTN’s representative, Mr. Obike Chijoke, said technical assessments were ongoing and promised accelerated upgrades along the corridor. Airtel Nigeria, represented by Brown Hannah, also expressed readiness to support immediate enhancements.
Chairman Pepple urged all operators to treat the matter with urgency, stressing that better connectivity would boost security operations, support the Council’s development agenda and enhance socio-economic activities across Bonny.
The meeting ended with an agreement to set up a joint monitoring team to track progress and ensure timely delivery on all commitments made by the telecom firms.
