The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple has launched a N100 million undergraduate scholarship fund to support 1,000 Bonny students studying in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Wisdom Jumbo, media aide to the Chairman made this known in a statement.
He said the initiative was formally unveiled on Friday at the Bonny Council Secretariat, where the Chairman handed over scholarship forms to the President of the National Union of Bonny Students (NUBS), Comrade Precious Jumbo Tamunoipriala. Each beneficiary will receive N100,000 upon presentation of valid proof of admission into a public tertiary institution.
Pepple described the scheme as part of his administration’s commitment to supporting students and reducing the financial burden on parents. He noted that the new scholarship program fulfills a promise made to the student community and complements the existing N20,000 bursary currently enjoyed by 1,049 Bonny students.
He also disclosed that renovation work at the NUBS Secretariat along King Asimini Bypass Road is progressing and will be completed before the Union’s upcoming Annual Convention.
In response, the NUBS President expressed deep appreciation for the Chairman’s continued investment in education and pledged the unwavering support of Bonny students to his administration.
