The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Amasenibo Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple has approved free and comprehensive medical care and immediate relief for residents affected by the recent fire incident at Macaulay Community, behind the Police Station, Bonny.
The fire occurred on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, affecting 11 flats. During an on-the-spot assessment of the scene, the Chairman—represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Ibinyefagha Renner Alabere—expressed deep sympathy to the victims and reassured them of the Local Government’s swift intervention and continued support.
As part of the emergency response, the Chairman directed that all injured persons receive free medical treatment, including specialised care for a newborn baby impacted by the incident.
The medical support is to be coordinated through the Office of the Supervisor for Health and Environment, Sir Hayford Banigo.
Speaking on behalf of the affected residents, the caretaker of the building, Mr. Victor Edem, disclosed that preliminary findings indicated the fire was caused by an electrical fault following the restoration of power supply to the building where the blaze started.
Reacting to the report, the Chairman reiterated his administration’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of residents, assuring victims of timely relief measures to ease their hardship. He also urged community members to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to safety precautions, particularly regarding electrical installations.
