The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, has approved the construction of a dedicated Disability Support Centre in the council area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and improved social welfare.
Pepple made the announcement during a courtesy visit by the Bonny Chapter of the Association of Disabled Persons, led by its President, Comrade Benstowe B. Salucky. The visit centred on strengthening collaboration with the council and addressing challenges faced by persons living with disabilities in the area.
During the meeting, the association outlined key issues affecting its members, including limited empowerment opportunities and the absence of a functional assembly hall.
Responding, Pepple assured that his administration is committed to policies and programmes that promote accessibility, inclusion, and the integration of persons with disabilities in development initiatives across the LGA. He revealed plans for a new Centre for Disabled Persons, which will serve as a hub for skills training, empowerment and other support services.
In addition, the chairman approved a monthly subvention of N1 million to the association to enhance its welfare initiatives.
Demonstrating prompt action, Pepple also inspected a proposed site for the centre, accompanied by the Council Engineer and the Director of Works.
