A former Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has issued a legal ultimatum to the immediate past Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, demanding a public apology over allegations linking him to the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Ihunwo has threatened legal action if Nwaeke fails to comply within 48 hours.
Nwaeke, in a viral video recorded at an Abuja hotel, alleged that suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara handed a bag of money to his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, who was reportedly in Government House, Port Harcourt, with two others, including Ihunwo, for the purported operation. Both Fubara and Ehie have since dismissed the claims as false and misleading, accusing Nwaeke of making the allegations for financial gain.
Through his lawyer, Obidinma C. Obidinma, Ihunwo described the allegations as defamatory, asserting that the claims, which were aired on national television and published in newspapers, have severely damaged his reputation. In a letter dated Tuesday, Ihunwo stated that his record of service was unblemished, emphasizing his leadership roles as the former Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, and his tenure as Obio-Akpor LG Chairman.
Ihunwo demanded that Nwaeke publish an unreserved apology on national television and in three national newspapers within 48 hours. He warned that failure to do so would result in legal proceedings against Nwaeke.
