The traditional ruler of Bille community who was allegedly whisked away by military officers yesterday has been released.
Chairman of Bille Council of Chiefs Benneth Opoki disclosed this in a chat with journalists yesterday.
According to him, military officers stormed the palace of the King yesterday, and whisked him away after suspected pirates attacked some military officers and carted away their weapons.
He said Bille community is currently under siege by the military due to the incident. He also said some youths of the community have been taken away by the military, and called for their unconditional release.
Opoki alleged that the military officers have given the King a 48-hour ultimatum to produce the assailants and the weapons.
He called on the military hierarchy to call its men to order as they cannot be under attack by pirates and then turnaround to attack military personnel.
He revealed that a boat passenger was killed yesterday, while others sustained injuries when pirates attacked a Port Harcourt bound boat.
He called on government at all levels to come to their aid by curbing the incessant attacks on the waterways.
Meanwhile, the military has denied the allegations. It said officers are only in search of pirates that attacked its personnel.
