Bandits who abducted 38 worshippers from Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have reportedly demanded N100 million ransom for each victim.
According to Leadership Newspaper, the kidnappers have begun reaching out to families of the abducted church members, who were seized during a Tuesday evening service.
Confirming the development on Thursday, the Olori Eta of Eruku, Chief Olusegun Olukotun, said four of his relatives were among those taken. He explained that he had been in the church with five family members when the attackers struck but managed to escape with one of his wards through a window.
Chief Olukotun said the kidnappers have contacted some families in the community, insisting on N100 million per victim. He added that he is yet to receive any direct call regarding his abducted relatives.
“From what we gathered, the kidnappers have divided the victims into groups based on their family ties and are calling relatives through those groups. Some people have already been contacted, each with a demand of N100m. I have not received any call yet concerning my people,” he said.
The attack, which occurred on November 18, left several people injured and resulted in the abduction of 38 worshippers. Five others lost their lives during the incident.
