The Rivers State Ministry of Health has confirmed that 13-month-old Baby Miracle, who was earlier involved in a juvenile abandonment case, has been reunited with his father, Mr. Ugochukwu Onyenehigo, and his grandmother.
According to the state commissioner of Health, Hon. Adaeze Oreh the reunion was made possible after an amicable settlement was reached between the child’s family and the hospital, following encouragement from the judicial officer of the family court. The abandonment case filed by the hospital on humanitarian grounds has since been withdrawn.
During a send-off event organised by the hospital, Mr. Onyenehigo, a generator-repair technician, explained the financial hardship that hindered him from clearing the outstanding medical bills. Although the agreement with the hospital included a repayment plan, the Ministry of Health has now stepped in to offset the remaining balance.
The hospital has been directed to submit a comprehensive report of other outstanding balances to the Ministry by Monday, November 3, 2025, to ensure the family can better cope with caring for the child.
The Ministry expressed gratitude to members of the public who showed concern for the child and his grandmother throughout the ordeal. It also commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his role in resolving the matter.
The Ministry assured that the family issues have been fully resolved and Baby Miracle is now back home in a safe and caring environment.
