The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation into a case of attempted murder involving a young woman, Miss Orinemi Ayanate, who was allegedly attacked by her longtime boyfriend, Abi Tamuno.
Spokesperson for the Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that the incident is being treated as a case of attempted murder. Preliminary investigations revealed that Ayanate and Tamuno had been in a relationship for seven years. However, tensions escalated after Ayanate ended the relationship upon discovering that Tamuno was already married.
According to the police, Tamuno had invited Ayanate under the guise of reconciling, but instead diverted to a deserted location. An argument reportedly broke out, during which Tamuno allegedly drew a pistol, broke a bottle, and stabbed Ayanate multiple times.
She was rescued by passersby and rushed to the hospital, while the suspect remains at large. SP Iringe-Koko said efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
