Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has denied speculation that he plans to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during a meeting with PDP women members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Atiku reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP and emphasized the need for a broad coalition to challenge the APC in the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the delegation led by former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Inna Ciroma, Atiku described the coalition as essential, not only as a political strategy but as a national imperative to restore Nigeria. He cited historical precedence, referencing the alliance between the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) and the Nigeria Peoples Party (NPP) during the Second Republic.
He assured the women that the PDP’s identity would remain intact in any future coalition and revealed that discussions were ongoing with political leaders and stakeholders nationwide to build a pan-Nigerian movement aimed at reclaiming the country.
Atiku stressed that the coalition would be driven by Nigerians from all regions who are committed to national renewal and democratic progress.
