The media office of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed reports claiming he rejected calls to step down for a southern presidential candidate during a purported political meeting, describing the story as entirely false and a fabrication by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, Atiku’s media team said the former Vice President was never part of any such meeting, calling the report a “malicious fabrication” and “pure fiction” orchestrated by what it described as the “propaganda machinery of the Tinubu-led administration.”
The statement further alleged that the narrative was a deliberate distraction aimed at destabilising the growing opposition movement, particularly in the wake of the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the adopted platform for the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“No amount of propaganda, planted stories, or faceless briefings will fracture the resolve of the opposition coalition. We are united, focused, and determined to rescue Nigeria from the clutches of this rudderless government,” the statement read.
The Atiku camp urged Nigerians and media professionals to disregard the unverified report, noting that it lacked attribution, credibility, and factual basis.
The statement concluded by expressing confidence in the growing national support for the ADC, describing it as a strong indicator that the current administration was “living on borrowed time.”
