The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced plans to commence a two-week warning strike on Monday, following the expiration of the two-week ultimatum it issued to the Federal Government to address its lingering demands.
As the deadline approaches on Sunday night, the Federal Government has yet to issue a public statement regarding the impending industrial action.
ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, criticised the Ministry of Education for what he described as its persistent delay in resolving issues affecting university lecturers.
“Their ultimatum expires on Sunday, and after that, there will be a warning strike unless something substantial comes out from the government. Within the next 48 hours, we expect to receive a substantial response from the government.”
“Then, we can go back to our members and ask, ‘Do you think this is sufficient for us to hold on?’ And we will do what our members ask us to do,” he said.
The union’s planned strike, if carried out, could once again disrupt academic activities across Nigerian public universities,” he said.
