The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced that its members will hold nationwide rallies on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, to press the Federal Government to meet its outstanding demands.
Zonal Coordinator of the union, Adeola Oyebisi Egbedokun, disclosed this at a press conference on Monday at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti. He said the demonstrations mark ASUU’s first major response to what it described as the government’s continued inaction on issues affecting universities.
Egbedokun explained that the rallies would take place simultaneously across universities, with academic activities suspended during the protests. He warned that the action signals a buildup to more decisive steps if the government fails to respond.
The union’s National Executive Council (NEC) has given the government until its meeting of August 28 to address the demands, after which ASUU will decide on further action.
