The Nigerian Army has called on residents of Rivers State to take advantage of the ongoing recruitment exercise and fill the remaining vacant slots allocated to the state.
Brigadier General Patrick Alimihkena, Chairman of the Nigerian Army Recruitment Enlightenment and Sensitisation Campaign, made the appeal on Friday during a media briefing at the 6 Division Garrison, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt.
According to him, out of the 190 recruitment slots assigned to Rivers State, only 124 have been filled, leaving 66 still vacant.
“We would not want the Rivers State slot not to be completed. There are 190 slots for Rivers State but only 124 have filled the online form. The army is an interesting place to be. There are a lot of opportunities in the army, a lot of amenities,” Brig. Gen. Alimihkena said.
The senior officer, who also serves as the Director of Welfare at the Army Headquarters Department of Administration, assured prospective applicants of a fair, transparent, and credible recruitment process.
Addressing concerns over insecurity in some parts of the country, which he noted had discouraged many parents in the South-South and South-East from allowing their children to join the military, Alimihkena dismissed such fears as misplaced.
He emphasized that postings within the Army are done collectively, stressing that no individual recruit would be isolated or permanently stationed in a particular area.
