Rivers State Government has said that preparations have commenced to host the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in the State.

Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, made this known during an inaugural meeting of the Central Planning Committee in Port Harcourt on Friday.

According to the Secretary to the State Government, who is also Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, the Emblem Appeal Fund Launching kick-starting the Remembrance Day will hold on November 28, 2024 with His Excellency, Sir Siminalay Fubara, as Special Guest.

He said that on January 15, 2025, there will be a spectacular array of parades and displays from members of the Armed Forces and veterans with Governor Fubara inspecting the Guards and laying of wreath to honour the Unknown Soldier.

The SSG added that before January 15, a Jumaat Prayer will hold on Friday, January 10 while an Interdenominational Church Thanksgiving Service will hold on Sunday, January 12, 2025.

He encouraged members of the committee, who are drawn from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and sister agencies, and MDAs to provide necessary support for a memorable Armed Forces Remembrance Day in the State.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is held annually on January 15, to honour veterans and fallen heroes of the Nigerian Armed Forces who laid down their lives for the territorial dignity of Nigeria.
