The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as “its own nemesis” following the party’s allegation that the ruling party was responsible for a reported shooting incident involving ADC members in Edo State.
In a press statement issued on February 26, 2026, the APC dismissed the ADC’s claims as “delusional” and accused the opposition party of reaching conclusions before any investigation by law enforcement authorities.
The ADC, in a statement dated February 25, had alleged that the APC was behind the shooting incident. However, the APC said such accusations, made prior to any official probe, demonstrate a disregard for due process and the rule of law.
“It is senseless to accuse the APC even before investigations are carried out. By its baseless conclusion, the ADC has appointed itself accuser, investigator, prosecutor and judge in its own cause,” the statement read.
The ruling party further questioned the ADC’s capacity to manage national issues, particularly security, arguing that a party unable to handle an internal incident with “maturity and legal guidance” cannot be trusted with the complexities of Nigeria’s security environment.
The APC also condemned the ADC’s reference to alleged “acts of terrorism by the ruling APC” against its members, describing the claim as reckless and insensitive to the sacrifices of security forces engaged in the country’s counterterrorism efforts.
While distancing itself from the incident, the APC condemned all forms of political violence and called on the police and other law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The party added that investigators should scrutinise the ADC’s internal activities, citing what it described as factional clashes and leadership struggles within the opposition party.
The APC maintained that it had no involvement in the Edo incident, stating that it was focused on consolidating what it described as significant electoral victories in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) municipal elections and constituency elections in Rivers and Kano states.
The party expressed appreciation to voters in the FCT, Kano and Rivers states for their support and reaffirmed confidence in the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
The statement was signed by Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the APC.
