The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has welcomed the defection of Governor Siminalayi Fubara to the party.
In a statement on Wednesday, Darlington Nwauju, publicity secretary of the faction loyal to Emeka Beke, described the development as a positive step, saying the governor would assume leadership of the party in the state once his membership is formalised.
“By the time we formalize the membership of Gov. Siminialayi Fubara, he will automatically become the leader of the APC in Rivers State,” the statement read.
Fubara had on Tuesday announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House, Port Harcourt, shortly after visiting President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Villa.
The governor said his decision was in the best interest of the people of Rivers State and promised not to disappoint them.
