Sunday Ohakwu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is planning to arrest Rotimi Amaechi, citing concerns over the former minister’s growing popularity.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Ohakwu described Amaechi as a leading presidential aspirant of the ADC and claimed that the alleged plot is intended to weaken the opposition ahead of the next general election.
“We have discovered that the plot is to arrest the top opposition political figure,” he said. “We strongly have it in our discovery that the plot is being coordinated by a top security official in the APC government, in the presidency, and could happen anytime soon, barring any last-minute change of plans.”
Ohakwu further alleged that several meetings have been held in recent weeks to identify grounds for anti-graft agencies to target and prosecute Amaechi.
