The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s involvement in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, describing his intervention as appropriate and within his constitutional responsibilities.
Speaking during a television interview, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the president acted in line with his duty to maintain peace and order across the country. According to him, the move was aimed at stabilising the situation and preventing further escalation of tensions in the state.
Morka noted that presidential intervention in such disputes is justified when it serves the broader interest of national unity and public order.
Reports indicate that President Tinubu directed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to halt the impeachment process against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara in the interest of peace.
The reports also stated that the FCT Minister should be regarded as a political leader in the state, regardless of party affiliation.
The development has continued to generate reactions from political stakeholders across party lines.
