The Director of Publicity of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bala Ibrahim, has faulted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his ongoing political feud with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, describing the former governor’s actions as self-destructive.
Ibrahim made the remarks while speaking on a live television programme, Daily Politics, where he reacted to the widely reported fallout between Wike and his successor. He said Wike was finding it difficult to adjust to his new political reality, noting that the former governor appeared unwilling to accept the change in leadership in the state.
According to the APC spokesman, Governor Fubara remains the recognised and legitimate leader of Rivers State, stressing that political authority in the state now rests with him.
He added that even if Wike were to formally join the APC, the existing political structure would still place him under the leadership of Governor Fubara, whom he described as the current face of governance in Rivers.
Ibrahim further reminded the FCT minister that leadership is transient, pointing out that Wike enjoyed loyalty and respect during his eight-year tenure as governor and should now accord the same support to his successor.
Commenting on Wike’s recent remarks likening the political contest with Fubara to a “burial,” Ibrahim cautioned against what he described as political self-sabotage, saying he had no interest in witnessing the former governor’s political decline.
He said Wike’s comments reflected a struggle to come to terms with life outside Government House and urged him to embrace the present political order in the state.
While noting that he does not have voting rights in Rivers State, Ibrahim said the APC remains focused on expanding its influence and ultimately securing victory in the state.
He added that, regardless of the internal disputes, his desire is for the APC to emerge stronger in Rivers, urging all actors to prioritise political stability and democratic growth.
