ABUJA – Political activist and former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Timi Frank, has raised concerns over an alleged attempt to manipulate the Supreme Court’s recent judgment on Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Frank claimed that loyalists of a former Rivers State governor were pushing to insert defection-related issues—currently pending at the Appeal Court—into the Supreme Court’s ruling. He described the move as a “desperate lobby” to alter the judgment and influence ongoing legal battles on the legality of lawmakers’ defection.
Frank urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the panel of Justices involved in the case to resist any external interference, warning that such actions could damage the Supreme Court’s credibility. He asserted that the defection issue was not part of the original ruling and should not be included retroactively.
According to Frank, this alleged manipulation is aimed at legitimizing the defection of lawmakers loyal to former Governor Wike from the PDP to APC, despite the absence of a party crisis at the time. He called on the judiciary to uphold its integrity and prevent any undue influence on the judgment.
