The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, cannot face disciplinary action for alleged anti-party activities without a formal petition backed by evidence.
The party’s Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha, stated this on Monday in Abuja while addressing concerns over the absence of sanctions against members accused of breaching party rules.
Osuoha explained that although the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has constituted a disciplinary committee headed by elder statesman Chief Tom Ikimi, with Eyitayo Jegede as secretary, no member has been penalised because no official complaints have been submitted.
“People often ask me specifically about the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike — why don’t we discipline him? Why don’t we take action? I tell them: It is not enough to merely say someone has committed an offence,” Osuoha said.
He emphasised that the committee can only act when petitions are formally filed and supported with evidence.
