An oil facility in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State was hit by a massive explosion on Tuesday morning, marking the second such incident in the state within 12 hours.
Sources say the blast occurred at a Manifold Connecting federal line in Okwawriwa, sending flames and thick smoke into the sky. The facility, which transports petroleum products from Seplat, Agip, and Shell, supplies ONELGA, parts of Imo State, and Brass in Bayelsa State.
This latest explosion comes on the heels of another blast at the Trans-Niger Pipeline in Bodo, Gokana LGA. Operated by Shell, the pipeline transports crude oil to the Bonny Terminal.
Security agencies have launched investigations into both incidents. The Rivers State Police Command has already detained two individuals for questioning in connection with the first explosion.
Authorities have yet to determine the causes of the blasts, but their timing and frequency have sparked concerns over potential sabotage. Many are calling for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and prevent future occurrences.
