The Caretaker Committee Chairman Andoni Local Government Hon. Reginald Ekaan Esq has set up a Health Intervention Committee for effective response to the suspected cases of cholera in some communities of the LGA.
The five member committee will work with the Public Health and Disease Control Department of the Rivers State Ministry of Health to carry out aggressive health promotion and enlightenment across Andoni communities.
The Andoni Council Chairman announced the Committee during a visit by officials of the Rivers State Ministry of Health at the instance of the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh said the Council will strengthen synergy with the State Government to ensure a cholera free Andoni.
Speaking to journalists after the engagement, the leader of the delegation and Director Public Health and Disease Control, Dr. Golden Owhonda commended the Andoni Council Chairman for taking proactive measures to address cases of extreme watery stool in the area.
He said the Ministry will set up a multi sectorial committee made up of experts to work with the LGA Health intervention committee to promote good hygiene and healthy lifestyle across Andoni communities.
Also speaking, the Covid 19/IDSR State Technical Assistant, WHO Rivers State Office, Dr Victor Oris-Onyiri said his team will bring international health expertise to facilitate health promotion exercise in the LGA.
Members of the Andoni Health Intervention Committee include:
1. HRH Dr. Inwon Joseph Urang (I) – Chairman.
2. Ishmeal John Idante – Supervisor for Education – Member
3. Chief (Dr) Fred Uwikor-Usende – Special Adviser on Medical Services.
4. Napoleon Adah, WASH Manager Andoni LGA
5. Dr. Mbaba Mbatumu.
The Committee will have other members drawn from relevant health sectors in the state through the Ministry of Health.
