The Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Friday, held a valedictory Session in honour of a former Member, late Chief Hon. Azubuike Nmerukini, who was a member of the House in the 4th Assembly, representing Port Harcourt Constituency III.
Hon. Nmerukini while in the Assembly was the Chairman of the House Committee on Transport.
According to Martins Wachukwu – Special Assistant On Media to Amaewhule, both serving and former Members spoke glowingly of his Chief, Nmerukini’s contributions to the growth and stability of the then fledgling democracy and the 4th Rivers Assembly.
He stated that, Amaewhule, described Nmerukini as one who brought his knowledge of politics to bear on his duties; adding that he was a philanthropist who used his wealth to better the lives of his people and provided mentorship to several other people.
Amaewhule stated that the House is pained that Hon Nmerukini died at a time when his fatherly advice would have played a significant role in the State; adding that after his dedicated service in the 4th Assembly, he went further to serve the State in several other capacities, including Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council, and Chairman, Rivers State Local Government Service Commission.
