The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, of posing a serious threat to the state’s democratic system.
Amaewhule alleged that the governor and his deputy have been moving around the state spending public funds without the approval of the House of Assembly, describing such actions as a violation of democratic principles and due process.
According to the Speaker, allowing the duo to remain in office under such circumstances could endanger the state’s fledgling democracy. He warned that unchecked expenditure of taxpayers’ money without legislative authorization undermines accountability and the rule of law.
Amaewhule’s comments come amid ongoing political tensions between the executive and the legislature in Rivers State, further deepening the rift between both arms of government.
