Mrs. Judith Amaechi, wife of former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed claims by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that she received N4 billion monthly from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for women empowerment programmes.
In a strongly worded rebuttal issued on Tuesday, Mrs. Amaechi described the allegation as “absurd, baseless, and politically motivated,” insisting that she was never a beneficiary of such funds at any time during or after her husband’s tenure.
Wike had in a July 2025 interview alleged that Mrs. Amaechi was paid a total of N48 billion — at N4 billion monthly — by the NDDC under the guise of training women in the Niger Delta. He also suggested she had been indicted in a corruption probe linked to the intervention agency.
But Mrs. Amaechi denied ever being under investigation by any anti-corruption agency, accusing Wike of engaging in “subtle blackmail” to score political points and tarnish her reputation.
Rotimi Amaechi and Wike, both former governors of Rivers State, have remained political rivals despite their shared history. Amaechi governed the oil-rich state from 2007 to 2015, handing over to Wike who served until 2023.
Their rivalry has since intensified, with both camps trading accusations on various issues, further deepening political tensions within Rivers State and beyond.
